Marine hand bearing compass in wood case. Compass (2016.02.0012A). used for guiding ship into port: Metal bowl with glass top, missing optical glass prism, resting on long wooden handle. The handle has a metal plate on the bottom. The top has a glass covering in place with rim that has white letters in four parts that read, "(crown) A.M. No. 828LB AFT TYPE 60 6A/0.473". Under the glass is rotating ball with a flat disk on top. The disk has straight ridges and the letters E S W N in four sections of the disk. Dimensions: 9" x 4" diameter Tall wooden case (2016.02.0012B) for marine hand bearing compass with inside cut out to fit 2016.02.0012 A. There are white paint strips on the side of the box with red lettering that read, "GLASS HANDLE WITH CARE". The top reads, "DELICATE INSTRUMENTS HANDLE WITH CARE".
