Description |
A small print of Smigus Dyngus, Polish Easter Monday custom. Traditionally, the boys pour water over girls, and they also spank them with pussy willow branches. It is believed that the girl that is most wet has more chances to get married. This print is a busy rendering of smigus dyngus. There are five individuals and a pig by a well. Two individuals have a bucket of water which they are using to douse. The female subject in the back of the painting seems to be dashing off. Another male subject is holding on to and dousing a female subject. And two male subjects are standing in the right corner, one of them is dousing an animal that stands below him. |
